Build-A-Bear Workshop® Guests often ask for help in supporting causes of great importance to their families. In 2003 our program began with support to children's cancer causes and quickly grew to include juvenile diabetes and autism. The Champ children's health and wellness grant program supports these important causes and many more! Click here for details on Nikki's Legacy, the inspiration behind our efforts.
Champ is a special furry friend that gives back – examples of 501(c)(3) not for profit organizations that these grants support include:
- childhood disease research foundations
- organizations that promote child safety
- charities that serve children with special needs
Examples of activities we do not fund include:
- annual fund appeals
- capital campaigns
- fundraising sponsorships or events
- individuals
- political activities
- private foundations
- religious organizations for religious purposes
Champ grants are awarded in two funding cycles each year and decisions are made by the Board of Directors of the Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation. Grant amounts typically range from $1000 to $5000.
If you are a 501 (c)(3) organization and wish to be considered for a Champ grant, please complete the Letter of Inquiry (LOI). The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation staff will notify you within four weeks to discuss next steps in the grant review process. Please note that in some cases applicants may be asked to supply additional information and that a personal interview may be required. In addition, an incomplete LOI will slow down the response to requests for assistance.
